I never really got into the whole social media thing. Switching over to tumblr now. 1) Fandoms are easier to follow there. 2) blogger's just kind of ugly, not going to lie.
Also been using twitter a lot more. Celeb stalking.
This obsessive behavior (not the obsession itself) will go away after IAP. It had better.

Sherlock
If you've talked to me recently, you probably know that I'm going absolutely gaga over BBC's miniseries... series... Sherlock. Season two just came out in Britain (watched) but isn't scheduled to come out in the US until May.
I think the biggest problem with Sherlock is that it is difficult to gush about it without having spoilers all over the place. After all, it is a mystery adventure. But as of right now, what I can say is that this is definitely something that I will rewatch. Over and over again.
I think there's something about BBC that puts out such fantastic miniseries all the time. I enjoyed BBC's Pride and Prejudice, and the few episodes of Merlin I've seen have garnered interest (I will watch those when I have time). And of course, there's the ever popular Dr. Who (which I must confess I still haven't watched).
Or maybe it's just that the US doesn't do productions like this often. Americans are more interested in more more more and instant gratification, which sometimes (read: often) ends up with the TV shows being shorter in length, but longer in duration. You can easily have 6 seasons for one show, which boils down to this: 1st season, gains following. 2nd season: the best. 3rd-5th season: starting to decline. 6th season: why are you still here. However, even at its best, these long seasons have nothing on the BBC productions I've watched. Granted I haven't watched that many, and it is quite possible that I am so impressed with BBC because the ones I've watched are the ones that were big enough in Britain to make it over here. However, I have to say that there hasn't been a single miniseries or series made in the US that I've liked as much as I've liked these BBC shows. Some may come close. I love Castle to death. But they don't bring the sheer OMG I HAVE TO RE-WATCH THIS NOW emotions out of me.

2012!
I don't really know what to say right now, but I feel like a post is necessary.
I'm sitting here, watching TV (new years performances), and listening to people talk in the background. I've just uploaded my photos of this whole summer/fall semester.
What I want for next year: better grades, more sleep, more singing, eating better, get a boyfriend.
XD
And here's my topic for this post, I guess.
Honestly, I think I just miss -having- a boyfriend. I miss having someone to talk to about things that's just mine. Like, I know I can just talk to all my friends about all my problems, but, well, call it possessiveness or jealousy or something, but I really want someone who's just mine, not someone who's everyone's. I don't think that's too much to ask, is it?
I feel kinda bad that a lot of my best friends are guys who have girlfriends. I'm a bit of a jealous and possessive person (as you could probably tell from the paragraph before). I'm taking up their time, complaining about my stuff. And that's the thing. I'm always complaining about stuff. I rage and I rage and I bitch and moan and complain. So I wonder if they feel weird about me, talking with their boyfriends that much.
Another thing is I don't have that many super close female friends. Most of my friends are male, and younger than me. (The younger than me might make it harder to find a boyfriend, not going to lie...) So I talk to a lot of guys. I wonder if that's just sending wrong signals? I don't know.
Eh. W/e.
Happy new years!

Post-Concert Wrap-up
Syncopasian's Fall 2011 Concert was yesterday. All the SyncoLadies featuring the Menz.
Let's just say that it was an experience.
I'm going to start off by saying that we had a very ambitious set list, with 9 songs, 6 of them being new songs, on top of our 3 mini group songs, 2 of which were new. So I would like to say good job to the whole group for being absolutely amazing. As a whole, I found the concert to be particularly stressful this year, taking a lot of energy from sopranos. I think this is the first time I was so exhausted after a concert, I didn't feel up to helping clean up. Luckily, they didn't need my help. Now to break down the concert.

- Allegro Cantabile soloist: Max Wu; perc: Lindsey Shi, Minshu Zhan; arr.: Lindsey Shi
This was probably the song that the most people in the group were excited about. It's a fun song, fast paced, and there's a perc-off in the middle of it. What isn't there to love? Well, let's just say that we probably started learning this song a little too late. There was a bit of a collective brain fart in the middle of the song. Also, the song sped up a bit, and I ran out of air by the end of the song, which made the end a little less than stellar. However, I would like to give major props to Max for getting it together and sticking it out with the rest of the group messing up. He was great, and deserved that solo. - Rocketeer soloists: Minshu Zhan, Ami Suzuki, Eric Lau; perc: Max Wu; arr.: Jessie Wang, Ben Chang
So... I was really excited for this song before we started singing it, since it's a great arrangement of the song and a different arrangement of the song, but then I slowly became ambivalent towards it. Not sure what else I can say about it. - Gee soloists: Ami Suzuki, Jeannie Yu; perc: Danny Chiao; arr.: Kyumin Lee
This song was definitely the feel-good-popular song of this semester. It's one that everyone knows, and is, honestly, a little more silly than artistic when we do it. I only wish that some people were more enthusiastic about the choreography, since that was the biggest selling point for this song. When a video is posted, just watch Max. He is an adorable dancer. - Silent Night small group: Ami Suzuki, Pudjeeb Buddhari, Eric Lau, Jimmy Liu, Danny Chiao; arr.: Ami Suzuki
I'll be completely honest. I didn't like this that much. Some of the chords were simply weird, and I thought, the first time I heard it, that they were out of tune. But in reality, that was just what the notes were. Interesting. - Fau Kwaa soloist: Eric Lau; perc: Minshu Zhan; arr.: Lindsey Shi
Love this song. Not going to lie. This is probably my favorite song (other than Hui Jia) this entire semester. Of course, sopranos also have a be as loud as you want moment. Oh wait, that moment is basically the ENTIRE SONG. And we're singing high notes. It's just fun to diva out sometimes. - One soloists: Kyumin Lee, George Cheng; perc: Max Wu; arr.: Jessie Wang
This was a fun song. I think the only real problem was that we rushed. Oh, and we went sharp. I'm just going to talk a little about our soloists. They are both great rappers (in my not so informed opinion), but I think Kyumin could do with a better... rapper's presence? Like, George is being all cool, and then there's Kyumin. Minor detail, really. - Hui Jia soloist: me (Tiffany Lin); perc: Jenny Wu; arr.: Jessie Wang
We went sharp. I'm so glad I have an upper range buffer. Also, I'm pretty sure that my voice was either really shaky or not quite audible for my first few notes. I know I over enunciated some words, because I was absolutely terrified up there. Solos always mess with my mind. However, I think I sounded good. Personal bias. =P - Nyan Cat small group: Minshu Zhan, Jeannie Yu, Jenny Wu, Kyumin Lee, Ami Suzuki; arr.: Kyumin Lee
This was probably... the hit of the show. I know some people were like eh when they started singing, but then everyone got into it, and were having a good time. Probably not the most polished song out there, but it was fun. Also, it was our encore song. :D - Xiao Qing Ge soloist: Minshu Zhan; perc: Lindsey Shi; arr.: Jessie Wang
This is one of my favorite songs. It sounded good (despite going sharp), and I just wish we could do this song sitting down. Like, it's such a sit down on a lawn and sing type of song, so relaxed and pretty. - Tik Tok/Heartbeat small group: Lindsey Shi (perc), George Cheng, Jane Wang, Pudjeeb Buddhari, Danny Chiao, Jimmy Liu; arr.: Ben Chang
This is probably my favorite small group -piece-, although it wasn't my favorite small group performance. There were some who didn't know the words, or didn't know how to fake not knowing the words. Every once in a while, George would go quiet, and Jimmy's looking at his cheat sheet cards. The bigger problem, though, was that Jane decided to tell AV (the Crossproducts) that she needed to be louder because the song wasn't really in her range. You know what? That's a lie. She ended up being way too loud. - Yesterday Once More soloist: Jeannie Yu, Lindsey Shi, Pudjeeb Buddhari; perc: Max Wu; arr.: Kyumin Lee
Not the most difficult arrangement from Kyumin. This song sounded nice too, and instead of going flat, like we usually do, we went sharp. There were a few intonation issues in the middle, but I think those were easily fixed. No other comment on this song. It's a good song, solid arrangement, solid singing (I think). - Konna Ni Chikaku De soloist: Jane Wang; perc: Minshu Zhan; arr.: Kyumin Lee
I like this song. I like the new choreo, and I think it's just pretty fun to sing. I think the most important thing to talk about is the comparison between Jane and the old soloist, Adrianna. Adrianna and Jane both have this overdramatic (to me) feel to this song. They're also both classically trained, which means that their sound is often similar. However, my main beef with the way Jane presents this song is that her words always sound very choppy. I'm not sure if that's just the way she speaks, or if she simply takes breaths at the wrong places. With Japanese, there really are right and wrong places to breath. Adrianna didn't have this problem. Then again, Adrianna had pretty fantastic lung capacity.

So, the whole post once a day thing obviously failed. Well, in my defense, I've been pretty busy/tired.
But here it is, another post (super late).
I got the part in Hui Jia. Which makes me ridiculously happy. Thank you Lindsey and Jessie for working with me! <3<3<3
And... I don't know what else to write. XD

Insecurities
I was going to post more about makeup, but I felt that I was not in the right place, mentally, to do that. So instead, insecurities.
Mostly, it's about my singing. As usual. I don't think I'm a bad singer. In fact, I think I'm a pretty good singer for someone who isn't seeking to do it professionally. The problem is, well, I'm too much of a group singer. I love choir. I love a cappella. I just can't diva myself out there. I'm not like Jane or Adrianna. I just can't do it. So when I audition for something, why does it hurt so much when I don't get it? Most of the time, I don't really care. But we're singing two songs this semester that have some meaning to me. Konna ni Chikaku de and Hui Jia. So, Konna's already taken from me once, so I'm like, ok. I'll audition again, now that Adrianna's graduated, and see if I got any better, see if I get it this time. Nope. Why do I keep putting myself out there, when I have never made it to the second round of voting? Seriously guys, it hurts. Especially since I lost out to someone that I thought had major pitch issues. Honestly. Please girls, please sing it in tune when you're singing with a piano, at least. Please.
We're auditioning for Hui Jia this Saturday. I sang that song with my dad when I was younger, so it really has a lot of meaning to me. But I know Jane would also sound nice on it. I just don't really know what to do about it any more. Like, my main selling point would be that I hit the high b nicely, but on a Saturday morning, I'm not sure how well I'll do. And my Chinese isn't as perfect as Jane's, I know.
Speaking of Chinese. Look, I'm not bad at Chinese. Frankly, I think my Chinese is damned good when I want it to be. It's just that most of the time, I don't really care. So I have an ABC accent, and I slip into Chinglish a lot. It's not like I'm in Chinese class, where I have to speak all Chinese. So Jane (and all you other Chinese folks), please stop judging my Chinese. I'll have you know I won speech competitions in Chinese before. So shut it. Your English isn't much better. (If someone actually does read this, please remember that I just like raging. Like, I'm upset, but I am not really mad at anyone. Trust me.)

Makeup? What's going on?
So, second day, and I already have a late post. Well, my "days" don't really end until I sleep. So there.
Today's post will be on makeup. And what I don't understand about my addiction to it.
As some of you may know, I recently (read since college) developed a small obsession. I now own more makeup than I really should own, and I don't know if I'll be able to stop myself from buying more. So that's the main problem.
Another main problem is I have some makeup items that I don't really know how to use properly. Most notable of these products is probably bronzer. I get the general idea about it, you know, make yourself look tanner, or perhaps change your face shape. But honestly, I don't quite understand the whole... mechanics? art? of bronzing your face.
So, one more thing I don't really get is, well, omg all those brushes! I have a bunch of makeup brushes now because they were cheap, and they were nice brushes, on sale (kinda). But! before I started using brushes, I was using those silly little sponge tip applicators which, honestly, did make things harder. However, there are just so many brushes! I have a foundation brush. But wait! I also have a stippling brush. Both are good with liquid foundations. And then I have my pressed powder, which doubles as my foundation sometimes, and I need to use a powder brush for that... @_@ Back in the day, I used to just use my fingers for the liquid foundations, and a ... sponge circle thingy for the pressed powder. And then there's the eye brushes. To me, there are 3 basic shapes: flat and thin, round, and rectangular and thick. So why are there -so- many brushes? Oh wait. They have all 3 types... in different sizes! And then there's the difference between synthetic and real hair. Someone please explain that to me?
Well, that's all I have time for today. I'll be back with more tomorrow!

Starting up again!
So, I read about NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) off Wei's blog, and I decided that I should probably give it a shot. I did really well two summers ago, when I had nothing better to do, and I had intended on keeping up, but I never really got around to it.
Well, now I'm going to try again. A post a day, at least for all of November. I'm going to try. If it doesn't happen, oh well, but if it does, then I've accomplished something.
Let's start up with a little update for Syncopasian stuff. I'll only mention the off campus performances.
The most notable off campus performance was probably Quad A, where all of us went to Chicago, and performed in front of complete strangers. That was fun. And quite a while ago, so I don't really remember that much. I do remember having to perform in the vicinity of Penn Yo, which, to be honest, intimidated me a little. Penn Yo has a fantastic sound, although they didn't have that much choreo. In my own biased opinion, of the three well established groups in that performance (odd, how I consider Syncopasian, out for only a few short semesters now, can be counted as well established), I think that Syncopasian is second in sound, beat by Penn Yo, and second in choreo, beat by Treblemakers. When I say second in choreo, though, I was only comparing, really, to Penn Yo, who didn't actually have many motions planned. If I compared to the not so well established groups (the ones only around for a semester or a year so far), I'm afraid that we fell short by far. The smaller groups had fantastic choreography.
The Brandeis performance was quite interesting, although it didn't quite go as we planned. Due to it being so close to the beginning of the semester, we didn't quite have the time to perfect many of our songs, and therefore got paid a lot less than we expected. But that's ok. It was the first time we really did anything of the like, so we expected some issues. The bigger issue (IMO) is that the sound wasn't that great. With about half of the size we had last year and a very odd sound system (crowding around mics and hoping we sounded ok), I'm not sure we put out the best performance we could have. The oddest thing about the entire night, though, was that they paid us in cash. Cash. Really? Did you want this performance to be untraceable or something?
The BU performance went a lot better, I feel. First off, there was an actual stage. And then we had good mics. The soloists had mics. We had mics. True, we were around two microphones, and scrunched in close, but I feel the overall sound was better, and the overall performance was enjoyed a lot more, by both the audience and by us. The best part was when the audience cheered... a little while after Jeanne started singing. I guess there was a delayed reaction to the song?
Well, this post is long enough. I'll start off on a new topic tomorrow. ^_^

So, I guess I should write this...
In any case. The semester has been rather hectic, thus the not updating thingy. I've done several things I'm rather proud of. First, I got an A in graphics (yay!), and second, I got a solo in my a cappella group.
Yay!!!
So, my own critique. I really hate my high notes. I'm seriously thinking about getting voice lessons to 1) work on my low range, and 2) learn how to use my high range a little better. It's also unfortunate that the syllable that the high note is on is "li". So yeah...
But I liked most of the song :D

A greatest fear
As the semester closes, and my friends start heading home, I'm hit again with one of my biggest fears: being alone. I can't help but want to be with other people, even if they're just silently studying, ignoring everything else around them. I believe this is why I have a compulsive need to work in the lounge. I just don't want to be alone.
Even at the airport, where I know nobody, I feel more comfortable than I do when my dorm is practically empty. At least there's life around me, and I can feel involved in something, even if it is only sitting together at an airport.
This is why I hate the end of the semester, more than anything. At home, my parents or my sister are usually around. During the semester, there's bound to be somebody just hanging out. Just being completely utterly alone is terrifying.
Along with that is my fear of wide open spaces. It's all so empty, without anyone anywhere. Terrifying.

To grad school our not to grad school
The answer my parents want for me is obvious. They wasn't new to go to grad school. But now with my first job offer in, I have to say that I'm not that sure. Grad school is great and all, esp since I wasn't too teach, but at the same time, this time next year I could be making money! That's not something I can be sure that I can let go of.
Back to the question of money though. I definitely feel that I put too much emphasis on money. But at the same time, I love the things you can buy with money a little too much. On the other hand, if I put or off for another year or so for grad school, my starting salary should be higher. But that's another year!
Sigh.
It's also bad of me to be complaining since so many of my friends are having trouble finding jobs. I feel like a bad person now.

Things to complain about
I found that I like complaining. About people, about classes, about items, everything. So this is going to be a post that's filled with complaints.
First off, my arm hurts. I just got my flu shot today, and my arm really really hurts. Like, I can't lift it up above 90 degrees from my body without it screaming in pain. Even at rest it hurts like hell. *cries*.
Second. My lab partner. One of them, at least. Mark just doesn't seem to know how to do things right. Earlier on in the year, we had an assignment, so the 4 of us say, ok, Sunday at 1 in the student center. Leah has a personal emergency, so she couldn't make it. Ok, the three of us will meet. Then Mark doesn't show up. He emails me and George at 1.30 ish saying, oh, he can't make it. Talk about irresponsible. Ugh. He also has the lab notes for this week and the lab writeup is due tomorrow at 10 am, and it's just like. uh... you were supposed to copy them ages ago and give them to us like... Monday or something? Hello! The rest of us did that, why can't you?
Third. Syncopasian. I love my a cappella group, don't get me wrong, but as time passes, I get more and more frustrated. The most irritating thing is that I can't seem to get a solo, even a very minor one, unless it's where they need someone to sing above a high G. Last time I auditioned for something, I didn't even get -comments- from the group. There were 4 of us auditioning for the solo, and Gloria and I get glossed over so they could argue between Adrianna and Diana. Don't get me wrong, they're really great singers, but I feel sad that I don't even get critique, so I don't know what to change. That, and both of them have had -multiple- solos with this group, and I've had 1... only because nobody else liked the song. We chose that song last minute to fill up our program. Seriously. I feel so jilted sometimes. It's especially hard, since my voice range isn't very large on the lower end, so there are many songs I simply -cannot- sing. *sigh* ohwell.
Forth. My arm still hurts. *cries*
Fifth. M.Eng. I really want to get a masters, but at the same time, I'm sick of all the fuss. Since I don't actually know if I'm doing it yet, I can't give a definite answer to many people who are asking me for interviews. I know that if I go in as a full time, I'd have better chances, but I don't want to tell them, oh, I want to work for you full time, and then, if I get into the program, say, oh, I just want to intern there. It doesn't quite work that way.
*sigh*
So that's what's going on now, besides other drama in the wing I live in.
At least no more stalkers? (I think....)

New Phone
ASo here I am trying it out. It is a smartphone, the first one I've had, so please bear with me here. I am blogging using the phone while I wait for a class that is using the lab to leave.....
In any case. I got a Samsung captivate, and I am already in love. It is a little larger than I expected but that is ok.
I already dled a bunch of apps (like the one I am using to post this). Let me tell you. This is a little odd...

I'm back?
Maybe. I'm going to try in any case.
In the past few (er more than a few) days, I've done quite a lot. I did Syncopasian auditions. I watched Wicked. I got a potential research job. And I went on Syncopasian Retreat.
By a few days, I guess I mean, since school started again.
Let's start from the top of the list.
Syncopasian auditions. were. hell. Ok, so the first day of auditions, we were there from 8 am to around 9? Auditions only lasted till 7, but then we had to decide on callbacks, and there was drama. By drama, I mean arguments over who to take. Most were rather clear cut, but there were some that were hell. We ended up deciding to take 14? I think for callbacks. That's 4 more than last year. And they were all very very strong candidates. We ended up getting 5 new members! Yay! 4 guys and 1 girl. So we're kinda more balanced now, which is always a good thing.
But before that. I decided to get donuts for the rest of the group, since dunkin donuts was supposed to be open at 8. Guess what didn't open until 9? Sorry guys. But donuts were nice.
Next! Wicked. It was really really awesome. By that I mean I was a little blown away by how -blond- Glinda was. Kevin was right. Glinda is so blond. So blond. Insert hand motions here. But the thing is, I thought that the Wizard moved a lot like Kevin. So Kevin is now: Dr. Justin Beiber Wizard Who. Congrats.
So apparently, I'm not going to be doing research on updating GPS with respect to traffic conditions! This will be great. And the prof. wants me to buy an Android phone. No biggie. XD I'm perfectly ok with that, since he's going to be paying for the phone itself.
Syncopasian retreat was interesting. We learned Dim Sum Girl and did auditions. Didn't get through all 3 songs we wanted to audition, but oh well. What I did want to mention is that I'm a little bitter. It seems that every time people audition, we give out critique and where to change things to make the chances of getting the next audition higher... except me. I got no discussion whatsoever. You know, that kind of hurts. Really. Beyond that, retreat was quite awesome.
So I'm basically caught up now, right?

Feet. Pain.
It's kind of odd that my first blog in a while is titled this. But it is true. My feet hurt.
As a group of twelve, we went to watch Wicked, which was amazing, by the way. So... I took the opportunity to get a little dressed up, and put on my heels. They're actually quite comfortable shoes... until you try to run with them. Now, I have four blisters, two on each foot. Make that at least four blisters. Because I think there's another spot that is either a very thick blister, or is forming a blister.
Oh. And I was judged. On the train ride back, I sang a part of a song that I liked, but couldn't remember the words. There were two men across from us, and I felt their judgment. One of them, apparently, played guitar in the orchestra for Wicked. The other male was... happy? I don't really know. But apparently, it was a 'good judgment' instead of 'bad judgment'... but I don't like being judged!
We ended up taking the Saferide to 77 mass ave, but then walking back the rest of the way, since we just missed Cambridge West Saferide. Sad. Feet.

REX
I've been helping out at REX for the past few days... and will be for a few days. All I have to say is that I still have a box and a half to unpack.
So I've been pretty tired. I mean it. Sleep. I took a -nap- today after one of the events. Did you know that your hands get really really black when you're tossing charcoal into a grill from the side? Well, they do. And fire is hot. Obviously.
So as you can tell, I am not that coherent, really. But tomorrow's another day. First syncopasian rehearsal after the summer... and I don't know where my Syncopasian binder is.
Oh, by the way. My charger died. So this morning, I brought my charger and my laptop all the way to MicroCenter, and turns out, I had to buy a new charger. It was 90 something bucks. So I'm pretty sad. Expensive! It had better work. The workers there laughed at my old iPod.... I don't quite know how to feel about that, since the workers were old balding men with white hair. Inadequate? Sad? Amused? I don't know.
Oh! And there's a new Next House 4w web site! Yay Shankari for being absolutely awesome!

On Blogging
So... I haven't been posting every day. I am so sorry. I can't even blame being back at school. But, I've been sleeping a lot, and exercising, and playing games with my friends.
So what -have- I been up to? I've been playing a lot of smash, cards, fire emblem, and mahjong. And you know what I realized? I am horrible at games that require any chance. Like, if the crit percent is 10 and the percent of being hit is 40, well, Nephenee will get hit. And she will be crit-ted. And she will die. And people ask why I like mages so much.
And if I just need that one tile to make an absolutely amazing hand, well, all versions of it are stuck in the dead wall.
Ugh.
So that's what I've been up to. Other than being sore and tired, that is. My shoulders will never be the same.

Exercise WIN!
So, this is actually 'yesterday's' post. But I'll include some of today in it too.
I convinced some of my friends to exercise with me! By some, I mean there were 6 of us in the exercise room. There were 'steps' thingies (don't quite know what they're called), a treadmill, an exercise bike, and an erg machine.
Let's just say that my legs are dead, and my shoulders are really sore now.
So today, most of us went swimming. It was a little less 'hardcore' (as hardcore as us out of shape people can get) as yesterday, but somehow, I feel a lot more tired than I did yesterday. Like, I seriously feel limp right now. I was playing smash not too long ago, and, well, let's just say my arms were too tired to really have quick reactions (that's my excuse!)
But in any case, so far, so good!

I'm BACK
I am back at MIT everyone!
So after I got back, it was a bit of a of a scramble for all my boxes. First off, we didn't know where they were. But! I'm mostly unpacked now.
It feels so weird being back at MIT. Like, I guess I got used to it being quiet, mostly. Or being used to particular sounds. But here, I'm sitting in the lounge, and there are people, and it's loud and happy.
And there's food.
I didn't eat too much of it! I swear! I was good!
So tomorrow, I'm going to go out and buy some necessities and then like, exercise or something. I promise.
So. A little about my plane ride, which is basically all of today other than unpacking. It was rather standard, and I sat next to an Asian man who worked for Cisco and the window.
So I looked out the window on the landing... and all I see is clouds. So I can see the wing (because I sat basically on top of it), and that's about it. And we finally break the clouds... and OMG THERE'S THE GROUND!
Quite literally. A few seconds after I can actually -see- the ground, we hit the ground. It was kind of crazy, and kind of scary. If I ever had to pilot this plane, well... let's just say, I don't want to -drive- with that kind of visibility, let alone pilot a -plane- with so many more people's lives on the line.
Respect to the pilot, man.
